Bloom:  Creamy-white, flat-topped clusters in late spring

Foliage:  Medium green, alternating leaves; deciduous yellows in fall

Fruit:  Dark blue-black drupes on red stalks in late summer; favoured by birds 

Light:  Full sun to part shade; grows well as an understory tree in a shade garden

Water:  Medium but regular - because of shallow roots it is susceptible to drought

Soil:  Best in rich, moist soils; mulch roots to help this tree cope with heat stress

Site:  Ornamental with its oriental look, especially when in bloom; grow as a small tree in the forest understory, in borders, as a specimen, or street tree.  Especially good for naturalized areas, native hedges, and woodland borders.
