Fruit: Papery pods (containing 4-6 seeds) form brown pods that provide winter interest
Light: Full sun [6 hours or more]
Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained, but tolerant of most soil types
Site: Good street tree; branches somewhat brittle and vulnerable to high winds
Cladrastis lutea (Kentucky yellowwood)
Wood is heavy and dense; potential use for furniture and firewood. Pink-flowered variety is very rare and a smaller tree up to 7m/ 25'. Pollinated by insects. Roots have nitrogen-fixing bacteria in nodes. Pruning best done in late summer.
