Growth:  Woody-branched vase-shaped shrub with gracefully arched branches, up to 3 meters tall x same wide

Foliage: Grey-green lance-shaped deciduous leaves

Flower:  Small clustered mauve to purple blossoms with orange centers on long panicles.  Sweetly scented but not overpowering.

Light:  Full to part sun

Soil:  Well-drained; can take drought once well-established

Garden site:  Shrub or perennial border; focal point for late summer attraction to hummingbirds and butterflies

  • In colder climates, shrub will die back to ground in winter.  Named varieties come in many colors and various heights.   Pruning hard stimulates growth of new stems and more prolific blooming.
