Bloom:  Late summer (July-September); bright yellow flowers with dark brown center cones (seed source); genetic variability may produce dark centers; very showy classic

Foliage:  Dull green and bristly; rosette formed first year followed by tall stems with a single flower each

Light:  Full sun; will tolerate some shade (and bloom longer there)

Water:   Totally drought tolerant, but appreciates moderate moisture

Soil:  Average to dry (once established); good drainage

Garden site:  Mid area of perennial bed, prairie, meadow, or wildlife garden, low maintenance and restoration projects as an accent or part of a mass of bright colour.
