Bloom:  Spring to mid-summer; spikes of raspberry red attract pollinators; very unusual

Light:  Full sun to part shade

Water:  Moderate to little

Soil:  Average to dry (once established); good drainage

Garden site:  Front to mid area of perennial bed; dryish meadow with grasses; in part shade the spikes tend to snake rather than stand vertically and are nice to view at eye level (raised planter); colour especially noticeable
