Bloom:  Mid-spring cupped white bud forms at the junction of the two leaf stems, starting above the leaves, opens into a pretty, simple flower (2-5cm, or 1-2in across with 6-9 petals) that finishes nodding below the leaves (pollinated by native bees that live on/in the ground), where it develops into the rounded "apple" in late summer
Foliage:  Two large, deeply lobed glossy umbrella-like leaves make for a handsome forest colony groundcover; deciduous, so bare ground in late fall and winter (best to leave fallen foliage as a mulch)
Fruit:  Edible ONLY when fully ripe (yellow); otherwise, ALL PARTS of this plant are TOXIC
