Spread:  30-45 cm (12-18 in); rhizomes spread to form colonies

Bloom:  In spring a large, greenish-yellow spike emerges, which develops bright orange-red berries in the summer

Foliage:  Stunning arrow-shaped leaves, shiny dark green with white mottling, form a handsome mound which disappears with the heat of summer and emerges again with fall's cool weather.  The foliage is incredibly resistant to the worst winter weather!

Light:  Part to full shade

Water:  Moderate

Soil:  Average to acidic; moist with good drainage

Garden site:  Front edge of perennial bed and under planting of shrubs and trees in forest garden setting
