Saponaria officinalis (Soapwort)
Saponaria has dozens of common names and important medicinal and practical uses. Most well-known for producing a soap (esp. from the roots) which is gentle for delicate fabrics. Caution: contains saponins that can be toxic and irritant. Do not plant near waterways (may be harmful to fish). Can be invasive in good soils.
