PLANT PROFILE:
Zone: 4-9 Perennial
Height: 30–60cm [1-2ft]
Spread: 60cm [2ft]
Growth: A basal clump with fibrous reddish roots gradually enlarges
Flower: From late spring into the fall, prolific and cheery large strawberry-like flowers of carmine pink/coral grow on wiry reddish stems; five petalled ("cinque foil") flowers; sheer stems after first bloom flush to encourage repeat flowering
Foliage: Coarse, deeply-veined, dark green palmate (five-lobed) leaves form the clump and provide textural contrast to the abundant flowers; plants may die to the crown in deep cold exposure, but also may remain semi-evergreen with a good snow cover
Environment: This is an easy perennial that will grow in sun or part shade; it tolerates poor soil but must have good drainage
Garden locations: Nice as a border of a perennial garden, in a rock garden or a patio pot
