PLANT PROFILE:
Zone: 3-8 Perennial
Height: 30–60cm [1-2ft]
Spread: 30cm [1ft]
Growth: A basal clump with a deep taproot gradually enlarges
Flower: In mid summer tall stems emerge from the clump with a ladder of lavender-blue puffy balloons that, one by one, open into five petalled star-shaped bellflowers - good as a cut flower
Foliage: Dark green leaves form the clump and small leaves climb the flower stems; in late summer the entire plant turns a pleasing coral-yellow, then dies to the ground
Environment: This is an easy perennial that will grow in sun or part shade; it tolerates poor soil but must have good drainage
Garden locations: Nice in the mid-zone of a perennial garden, but erect enough that it can edge a border without support
