PLANT PROFILE:

Zone:  9-11  Grow here as an Annual

Growth:  Mounding vine best allowed to crawl over a thick bed of straw/hay or plants can be caged/tied up to a structure; plant is 30-60cm [1–2ft] tall, 60-90cm [2–3ft] wide

Bloom:  Small yellow flowers give way to delicious fruit

Fruit:  Green fruit are enclosed in a papery husks. The edible fruit grows and ripens to light orange, hard, crisp spheres with a refreshing fruity taste; when ripe, the fruit fall to the ground (thus the mulch cushion).

Foliage:  Bright green, sticky, deciduous

Light:  Full sun

Water:  Moderate

Soil:  Not rich, moist but well-drained

Garden Location:  Requires space to let sprawl or be caged or staked, or tied to a fence,  so best placed in the vegetable garden where it can be maintained, watered, and harvested.
