Zone:  3-9

Height:  60-75 cm (24-30 in)

Spread:  60-90 cm (2-3 ft)

Bloom:  Small cream flowers in summer... but the MAIN SHOW is in the fall...

Fruit:  A brilliant orange "berry" (edible) is enclosed in a brilliant orange calyx that has the shape of a lantern.  This calyx (poisonous) gradually loses it's orange substance but maintains its shape and becomes an airy network in the fall with the bright orange berry hanging inside.

Foliage:  Medium to bright green; deciduous

Light:  Full sun to part shade

Water:  Moderate

Soil:  Not rich, moist but well-drained

Garden Location:  Best as a lone planting where this gradually spreading plant (underground rhizomes) can be controlled to form a colony the size you wish.  [Note:  This selected variety is much less agressive than the species.] Makes a great cut ornamental.
