Bloom:  Small, pale pink flowers cluster at junctions of leaves & stems in summer, followed by bright purple bead-like berries in fall that persist all winter

Foliage:  Deciduous;  bright green

Water:  Ample in summer to dry in winter

Soil:  Fertile, well-drained

Maintenance:  Will form a colony with runners or layered stems.  Keep to a tidy single shrub with fall pruning and removal of unwanted rootings. 

Use:  Lovely weeping shape for a shrub border with colourful fall and winter interest.  Cut stems with fruits to dry for the fall vase arrangement. Allowed to spread, a colony will help to prevent soil erosion.
