Soil:  Prefers acidic, rich, well-drained soils, but tolerant even of heavy clay.  Likes consistent moisture; mulch roots.

Site:  Very ornamental; grow as a shrub or small tree in borders, as a standard, specimen, or street tree.

  • Known as Shan Zhu Yu, Cornus officinalis is an important medicinal plant used for thousands of years in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).  Pollinated by insects.

    A very ornamental plant, it is very closely related to C. mas, but is more tree-like.
