Bloom: Mid- to late spring bulb flowers are bright yellow with pointed petals that eventually open fully into large yellow stars
Foliage: Lily-like narrow strap leaves that disappear in later summer

Water: Plenty in spring; little to none in later summer when bulbs go completely dormant
Soil: Loose, not too rich, well-drained
Garden location: Mid-border; mixed with other spring flowers beneath deciduous trees
Tulipa sylvestris (Woodland tulip)
These bulbs return year after year greeting spring with cheery yellow stars. They will naturalize and gradually increase through seed and offsets or daughter bulbs. They can be spread out, redug in subsequent seasons, spread further and rearranged to taste.
