Bloom:  Spring bulb flowers are white, blue, yellow, pink, maroon

Foliage:  Lily-like narrow strap leaves sized to bulb/flower

Light:  Sun (especially spring sun) to part shade

Water:  Plenty in spring; little to none in later summer when bulbs go completely dormant 

Soil:  Loose, not too rich, well-drained

Garden location:  Front to mid-border; beneath deciduous trees

  • These bulbs return year after year to herald spring.  They will naturalize and gradually increase through seed and offsets or daughter bulbs.  They can be spread out, redug in subsequent seasons and spread further and rearranged to taste.
